About Sound

Sound & Healing

  • Close-up of a dark green, swirling, viscous liquid with bubbles and streaks.

    Sound reduces stress.

Sound promotes a relaxation response which helps reduce stress and release repressed emotions. Ongoing stress and repressed emotions are a major factor in many chronic health conditions.

  • Northern lights glowing green in a night sky filled with stars.

    Sound relaxes the brain waves.

Sound sessions help relax our brain frequency from beta to the alpha-theta zone. Alpha-theta zone is the optimum frequency for healing and creative thought.

    Sound promotes harmonious cell function.

Cell membrane receptors pick up on the vibrations of healing sounds plus intention. This affects the cell’s protein charge benefiting healthy function. Also, specific sounds and intervals stimulate the release of nitrous oxide, enhancing cell regeneration and the immune system response.

    Sound aligns & clarifies energy.

As an energy form that can be heard as well as felt, sound has the power to impact the denser energies of our physical form as well as the subtler energies of our thoughts and intuition. Colors, sensations or visions experienced during sound healing may reawaken us to our highest values.

A quick primer on sound energy

  • Before atoms and molecules are waves of vibration.

These sub-atomic quantum waves don’t just make up the ‘things’ we can see and touch, they are the stuff of our thoughts, feelings and more. Waves of vibration make the field of consciousness from which everything else springs. These waves might be dense and slow - like physical matter (our bodies, for instance). Or light and fast - like color, smells, feelings or thoughts.

  • And sound isn’t just heard, it is felt. Sound is a pulse wave.

We are constantly immersed in a sea of sound. And are emitting our own unique sound signal out into the world - even if we don’t realize it. Our own unique vibration, or sound signal, is made of the collective frequencies generated by the state of our bodies, emotions, thoughts and connectedness. Sometimes the signals we take in and emit are in harmony, sometimes they are dissonant. When they are dissonant, we are not in alignment and may feel ‘off’ somehow. This could show up as different challenges physically, mentally, or emotionally - or a feeling of disconnection from self or others.

  • This is the sonic principle of entrainment.

Sonic pulse waves continually push against one another, trying to come into resonance. For instance, if you place a group of metronomes in a room going at separate rhythms, eventually they will all beat together. This happens as the strongest pulse wave entrains the the vibration of the closest match to it and so on. As we go about our lives, there are countless pulse waves pulling at our frequencies. If the sonic frequencies of our mind, heart, bodies and soul are not in alignment, it is more likely other frequencies pulling at us will create more dissonance. Leaving us feeling - quite literally - ‘pulled in different directions.’ But, when our signal is in harmony with itself, it is stronger, more stable and resilient. Your whole field has a better ability to entrain itself back to health and wellbeing even when in contact with different dissonant frequencies.

  • Overtones of structured sound help pull us back into harmonious alignment.

Overtones, or harmonics, are a mathematic and geometrical phenomenon that happens when sounds are played or toned. Some instruments or tones - like the human voice, singing bowls or monochords - are particularly good at generating these harmonics. When you hear a note, you aren’t just hearing one pitch, you are hearing a range of pitches above that note in a mathematical sequence. These beautiful patterns of sound can be seen in sonic experiments with sand and water. (When you consider that the majority of the human body is water, this is a big deal!) The structured sound used in sound healing has an organizing effect on our whole field which centers us back to ourselves.

  • Remember that thoughts and feelings are vibrations too.

What we think and feel really matters. We may want to feel good, healthy, vibrant, safe, loved — but if the content running through our mind is largely negative, stress-filled or scattered — we are not aligned. Even if we are ‘going through the motions,’ so to speak, our thoughts may be entraining our field to a vibration that is working against us. In sound healing, we spend dedicated time tuning in with your heart space and crafting an intention and visualization that is in tune with your highest values. This intention becomes the foundation and focus for all sounds and vibrations created during the session. It also serves as a mental anchor beyond the session to entrain your thinking and feelings space to your highest, healthiest self as you go about your daily routines.

Experience transformation through sound

Through sound, I invite you to experience yourself and your world differently.

When we think about sound, often we think about music —something pleasing to listen to, that relaxes us, inspires our mood or entertains us. Of course sound can be all those things…but sound actually goes far deeper…

Sound is a creative, harmonizing, energetic force that brings structure, patterns and processes into form.

I invite you to join me on an energy and paradigm-shifting journey through sound to connect the depths and heights of your heart-centered possibility.

Learn about the energy of sound and why it works.

Sound is an energy force that forms our experience.

The vibratory waves of sound energy quite literally form, or in-form, the structure of our reality. Information, or in-formation is the process of bringing new potentialities and connections into being. This process is kinetic and vibratory in nature. And that which vibrates makes sound.

Sound has the power to bring potentialities aligned with your highest wellbeing into form. And it has the power to shift stuck energy, transmute, reorganize and reform it into healthy patterns.

Why should sound matter to you?

Sound is not just something you hear. It is a pulsing pressure wave that you feel. Sound energy can penetrate material form and cellular tissue bringing relief, nourishment, and realignment to physical structures, patterns and processes.

  • Likewise, it offers the same healing benefits to subtler energetic patterns and processes of consciousness, that immerse, surround and extend from connected physical processes. These include things like the emotions, thoughts, intuitions and our sense of connection or purpose.

Just as as this collection of vibratory patterns and processes is nested within you, you also are nested within a collection of similar vibratory patterns and processes in the world around you.

This collection of vibratory patterns and processes that immerses and surrounds you is continually pushing and pulling as it tries to establish harmony and coherence.

Episodes of clashing or dissonance in this vibrating field of in-formation may be sensed as discomfort or disease on some level. Easing and realigning vibratory coherence through healing sounds which contain a spectrum of frequencies may bring relief and healing to energies both material and subtle.

Sound is healing you can experience directly

When we put this vibratory knowledge in context of ourselves, it becomes impossible to see ourselves or our world in separate fragments that have no relationship to one another.

Through knowing about and experiencing sound, we become increasingly aware that our body is not separate from our emotions, thoughts, intuitions or dreams.

  • All of these vibratory frequencies from subtle to material are continually flowing, oscillating, and intertwining — gaining and losing density as they go. This vibratory process continually forms, transmutes and reforms the realities and perceptions of your holistic experience: physical, emotional, mental and spiritual.

Nor are we separate from our world. Through knowledge and experience of sound, you expand your awareness that this same vibratory pattern is at play from microcosmic to macrocosmic levels. Vibratory processes that create subatomic particles perpetually scale up and gain complexity. Eventually they create atoms, molecules, cells, organ systems, beings, communities and so on and so forth until we get to cosmological levels. In harmonious, connected systems, complexity may increase — but connection to the fundamental pattern and pulse remains the same.

Through sound, phrases such as “it’s all connected,” suddenly become quite tangible. In fact, it is when this connection is lost, separated or fragmented, that patterns of dissonance or dis-ease can establish. Sometimes this may be referred to as “a block.” And that is exactly what it is. There is a block in the connected, harmonious flow of the system. Although nothing is static, depending on how habitual these patterns of dissonance have become over a given space or time, they may become harder to shift. As vibratory patterns repeat, they becomes stronger and more material. Another way of viewing them is like a groove or a rut that becomes deeper over time. The deeper it becomes, the  harder it is to re-establish alignment.

But sound still offers a powerful, yet gentle, non-invasive modality to work with these patterns whether material or subtle, long-standing or fairly new.

How does sound work?

Sonic vibrations entrain one another. Meaning, they pull other vibrations of a similar frequency into alignment. (To see an example of this in action, watch how metronomes in a room that pulse at different rates at first begin to tick in synchrony.)

  • Higher, or subtler frequencies of sound can work with the subtler aspects of the consciousness — like the mind or emotions —  to transmute vibratory blocks that may eventually contribute or manifest into physical discomfort or dis-ease. Lower, slower or more intense frequencies of sound can work effectively with slower moving aspects of the field like the physical body. Sound energy can penetrate cellular tissue and reform crystalline structures of water in the body to nourish and harmonize physical structures and processes.

Like patterned energies of the bio-field (a term that encompasses the collective energies of body, emotions, mind, soul and spirit), sounds also are a collection of repeating patterns.

Each tone that you hear contains a repeating geometric sequence of sine waves . These nested sequences of sine waves include overtones and undertones which are layers of higher and lower frequencies within and around each pitch in a predictable geometric pattern. As a tone is played to focus on a particular area of the bio field, the connected subtler and denser energies around this area can be entrained by frequencies of the overtones and undertones.
