Your Healing Voice: Tips for Getting Started

People often have a lot of hangups about their voice. They are anxious about the way they sounds, perhaps they feel they can’t sing. Or — if they’re a good singer — they’ve only thought about their voice as a tool for performance. No matter the case, using our voice can make us feel very self-conscious. It can make us fear being judged, evaluated — even criticized.

Though your voice — intimately linked to your consciousness — is a powerful tool for healing. No, you don’t have to be a singer or musical at all to use your voice in a healing way.

Let me repeat that:

No, you don’t have to be a singer

or musical at all

to use your voice in a healing way.

Changing how you think about your voice from being nervous about how it sounds, to being excited about its power to transmit energy is a game changer.

When you use your voice,

you are creating vibration within your body.

This is all you need to think about.

Humming or toning in a realxed, comfortable way, offers beneficial energy through and around your biofield.

The vibrations from your voice:

  • Directly massage your cellular tissue,

  • Affect the crystalline structures of fluids in your body, and

  • Impact the subtle energies in and around your cells.

What are these “subtle” energies?

Atoms that make up molecules and cells are over 99% “space.” This space is not “empty” but full of subtle energies that can be entrained by vibrations — in this case your voice — to nourish these energies and the material structures they are connected to.

Tips to Use Your Voice in a Healing Way

  1. Sit quietly for a moment or two and notice how you feel in this moment.

  2. Take a few easy breaths. If you’re feeling nervous or anxious, try this breathing technique first.

  3. Bring a kind or calming thought to mind. Perhaps something you appreciate about yourself, a memory or thought of a beloved person, pet, place or experience.

  4. If this loving thought could have a color, what would it be for you? In your mind’s eye, see this color surrounding you.

  5. Place your hand on your heartspace.

  6. As you inhale, focus on your loving thought and breathe its color into your heartspace.

  7. On your exhales, make an easy, comfortable, gentle humming sound with the kind thought in mind. Feel the vibrations coming from your voice with the hand on your chest.

  8. If you cannot feel the vibrations with your hand, try changing the pitch of your voice, perhaps shifting it a bit higher or lower until your hand can detect the vibrations.

  9. Once you can feel the vibrations, focus on how it feels. Remember, this does not have to “sound pretty.”

  10. Continue humming for several cycles while you return your attention to your kind, loving thought. Envision the color of light you cultivated mingling with the vibrations of your voice, cascading through your chest and flowing through and around your body.

  11. Experiment with changing the humming sound by slowly changing the shape of your lips and mouth. Try sounding different vowels like AH, OH, OOO, EEE or UH.

  12. Notice what pitch, and humming or toning sound feels the most comfortable and natural for you. When you’ve identified what feels best, continue toning that same simple sound for several cycles infused with the color of light and the quality of your kind, loving thought you created.

  13. If there are any places in your body that feel tense or are experiencing discomfort in anyway, envision focusing the vibrations of your voice to this place. You may need to shift your voice a bit lower or higher depending on if your area of focus is lower or higher in your body. Lower tones tend to better connect with lower areas of the body, Higher tones tend to better connect with higher areas of the body.

  14. See and feel this area being surrounded by the vibrational energy you are creating, the sound of your voice, the color of light and the loving, kind thought.

  15. Hold a getle awareness that the vibrational energies of your voice are massaging your tissues at a cellular level, and carrying the subtle energies of the thought and light energy through and around your body. At a cellular level, these vibrations are:

    • Changing the crystaline structures of fluid in your cells.

    • Changing the protein charge of your cells. Antennae-like receptors on cell membranes pick up the quality of vibration which contains both the vibrations of your voice, and subtler emotional quality of your thought/intention. This kicks off a bio-chemical reaction within your body.

  16. After a few minutes, sit in silence for several moments and become aware of how you feel. Has anything changed since you first sat down? You may wish to record any experiences you had, or take note of the sounds, colors or images that were most meaningful for you.

  17. Use this simple, yet powerful technique often to center, bring calm and relief.
